In the summer of 1999, Buddy Todd and Joe Masinter embarked on a journey from Canton, Texas to Spokane, Washington. Joe was to fly down from Spokane and help Buddy move up to Spokane (his home town). What was supposed to last a week, lasted two, but what happened is even more important. Some people say, 'What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.' I suppose they're right. With transmission problems in Arizona, and more problems in Las Vegas and Utah, the thought that air-travel is better had crossed their minds.

But not all was lost. They enjoyed Buddy's last days in Texas, the landscapes of New Mexico and Arizona, the brilliance of Las Vegas, and the mountains of Utah. By the time they had reached home, the anxiety that the trip was coming to an end became vivid.
